gchs_devils, that is exactly what Barry said to me at the Union/Gatecity game. He said "I like being out of the spotlight. It means more to me to have a former player come talk to me then being on the front page of that Kingsport times"

Then, getting back on topic, who is gonna be the new HC at Lee?
haha we did get a bit off topic for a page or two didnt we.
I still think that Austin or Salyers would be a good fit. Salyers would probably be a better fit, though. He is more "in your face" with the parents. It would be a shame to let someone of his knowledge of the game not to get another shot at HC. Oh, and I don't want to forget Palmer.
whats funny is some of you refuse to admit just how much the talent level has dropped. You are kidding yourself if you believe the 04 team had as much talent as 98 or 95.
Seems Pennington Middle's Martin is supposedly a favorite among some of the more important.
Who knows with Lee though. Given the cycle with them, I'm with red, it'll be someone within Lee's system....probably on the staff now, Coach Martin, or the like.
I hope whoever they hire can get a something going in Ben Hur. Lee high has some good athelets but its like one or two pieces of the puzzle havent been found yet. What type of game plane does Martin bring to the table
Pennington has had some good teams under him over the years, although Pennington's had a pretty good program even before. A good middle school record doesn't necessarily translate over either. Seems most of the kids like him. He's not a teacher, so not sure how that will go over.
Here's Pennington's football website:

I don't know what to think. This will be coach #3 in the past 4 years, not to mention the many other changes since '98. There's some new school board members in now (Don Williams, Mike Twigg, and Debbie Jessee, with Ty Harber and Kyle Chadwell returning)...and don't forget Lee High's oh-so-knowledgeable booster program group that will have their dealing again I guess, lol. We'll see what this regime has in mind. There was an article on Palko's release in the PVN this past Wednesday. Said the Principal told him that they decided to not renew his contract for this next season. Apparently wasn't given a reason why whether it be financial reasons or performance.
Martin seems like a laid back man, but not sure how well his middle school record would transition to varsity. He's not a teacher in the system? Hard to understand how current staff wouldn't be first option like it is in other programs unless they luck up and catch a big one somehow. Given the track record, how's that going to happen? Not sure who'd want that on their plate. Palko got the blame because he was the head coach but I'd imagine his assistants Were there working. The younger classes are rumored to have some depth unlike the varsity. It could be a good situation in a few years. Their record wasn't much to write home about but the overall play the past couple of seasons seemed better. I watched them a few times from 2001-06 and they just seemed to quit after the first big play. They showed better poise lately, especially in the second half of the seasons. I would love to see a younger person with some energy get a hold on that program. They need new blood with some old school hard nosed mentality. Getting someone to stay long enough is a problem. Heck, my cousin went there and said they had as many principal changes as coaches. Gotta be more than lack of production fueling the changes in Ben Hur.
School board, named Martin as Lee High's new head coach, Tuesday night.
